About 1,200 people were without power in the Temecula area Saturday night after a car crashed into a pole Saturday night on Highway 79, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 9:47 p.m. Saturday on Highway 79 at Anza Road, according to initial reports to the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses reported that cars were using DePortola Road – which, in that area, is a dirt road – as a detour and getting stuck.

While some customers’ power has been restored, about 1,200 customers were still affected at 11:30 p.m., according to Southern California Edison.

Power was estimated to be restored at 9 a.m. Sunday.
