Crews extinguish Chino Hills house fire

Crews extinguished a fire Saturday night at a three-story home in Chino Hills that left three people displaced and killed two pet birds.

The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m. at a residence in the 1050 block of Carbon Canyon Road, Chino Valley Fire District Spokeswoman Massiel Ladron De Guevara said.

Chino Valley crews, aided by firefighters from the Brea Fire Department, brought the blaze under control by 7:15 p.m.

The fire within the home was contained to the second and third floors, as well as the roof and attic, Ladron De Guevara said. Some flames spread into grass and trees behind the home, but crews stopped them from spreading into other properties.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Residents at the home initially believed that someone was still trapped inside by the flames, Ladron De Guevara said, but that individual was found safe outside the house. Ladron De Guevara said it was a reminder to have smoke alarms on each floor of a house, and to have a plan for families to evacuate and meet up safely outside in the event of an emergency.
