For the first time, the college staged two ceremonies Thursday, May 23, to accommodate its growth — a fitting development as it said goodbye to the college’s largest graduating class ever.

During commencements at the Pechanga Resort and Casino near Temecula, Mt. San Jacinto College awarded 3,314 degrees and certificates to 1,707 graduates — nearly 800 more degrees and certificates than last year, a college news release states.

Graduates received 2,985 associate degrees and 329 career certificates, as some earn more than one degree, certificate or a combination, according to the release. The Class of 2019 rose by about 200 from last year’s total.

Officials at the college, which has campuses in San Jacinto and Menifee, attribute the increases to efforts to alert students when they’re eligible to graduate.
