Murrieta firefighters will hand check to cancer survivor

Eight Murrieta firefighters, each wearing 50 pounds of gear, ascended 69 flights of stairs at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle.

Now, they will gather at one ceremony.

Using money raised for the annual Firefighter Stair Climb on behalf of the Luekemia & Lymphoma Society, the Murrieta Firefighters Association, Local 3540, are set to surprise a local cancer survivor who climbed over his own set of struggles, a news release states.

Murrieta resident Marshall Winn will be recognized at the Murrieta Fire Station at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, for his help in building a mother-in-law suite for Murrieta Fire Capt. Mark Moore’s home.

At the ceremony, officials will hand Winn a jumbo-sized check — the amount of which is yet to be determined — and share his life story.
