One of two suspected of robbing Perris Circle K arrested

One of two people suspected of robbing a Circle K on Thursday morning was arrested early Friday.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said deputies arrested Ricardo Velazquez, 22, on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Officials said Velazquez and a second person arrived at a Circle K on the 19000 block of Harvil Avenue in Perris. Once there, the two robbed the convenience store and left the area in a 2009 Chevy Malibu, but not before a witness provided a possible license plate number to arriving deputies.

The Sheriff’s Department said an investigation showed the two also were involved in an earlier robbery in Riverside.

Early Friday, at around 9:45 a.m., deputies arrived at a residence on the 10200 block of Effen Street in Rancho Cucamonga, authorities said. As deputies were about to serve a search warrant, Velazquez tried to leave the residence in the same Chevy Malibu from the Circle K robbery.

Officials said Velazquez had a semi-automatic handgun in his possession when he was arrested.

Velazquez was booked into the Southwest Detention center with a bail of $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Department said the second suspect has not yet been identified and officials are still investigating.
